Every child deserves a fair start. Give a meal today

The people behind the promise

We started with one classroom and kept showing up.

Children First is a local community of educators, families, and friends making sure children never have to choose between learning and their next meal.

Our story

Trust is built in the small moments.

In 2016, our founder, Meera Iyer, noticed the same children missing class after lunch. They were hungry, working at home, or caring for younger siblings. The answer was never just “study harder.”

So a few neighbours opened a room, found a teacher, and cooked a simple meal. That first room became a place where children could arrive as they were and leave with a little more confidence.

A message from our founder

“Children do not need our pity. They need a fair chance, and people who will keep their word.”

I began Children First because I believed the most useful thing we could offer was consistency: a teacher who knows your name, a plate that is waiting, and a community that sees what you can become.
